CO2 Neutrality
COFRA Holding started its CO2 neutrality programme in 2005 as an acknowledgement of the global threat posed by mankind's daily activities. The project aims to counterbalance the gas emissions created by its companies. This is to be achieved by reducing direct emissions where possible and by purchasing carbon offsets, or credits. Together with Good Energies, COFRA Holding was able to achieve CO2 neutrality in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and is intending to achieve CO2 neutrality again in 2008.The credits that have been purchased, so-called Verified Emission Reduction certificates (VERs), were purchased from a solar cooking project in India, Solar Community Kitchens, thereby supporting an important project to replace the use of fossil fuels and unsustainable harvest of firewood with cheap, sustainable power. A positive side-effect from the solar cooking project has also been to improve the respiratory health of those cooking with solar power by significantly reducing indoor pollution.
