Tuesday, 06 October 2026
Florian’s appointment as Chair of the Board of COFRA Holding AG marks a transition from the fifth to sixth generation of Brenninkmeijer family owners with a mission to amaze customers and be a force for good. He will succeed Martijn Brenninkmeijer.
Engaged family ownership is a cornerstone of COFRA’s evolution towards becoming a mission-driven investment management group.
With Martijn Brenninkmeijer as Chair, COFRA increased its total Assets under Management to €40bn investing alongside partners, diversified its portfolio of financial and real assets and further expanded product strategies.
Zug, Switzerland, 7 October 2026 – The Board of Directors of COFRA Holding AG is pleased to announce the appointment of Florian Brenninkmeyer as Chair of the Board, effective from April 2027.
Florian is a sixth-generation member of the Brenninkmeijer family owner group, the origins of which go back to Clemens and August Brenninkmeijer who established C&A in 1841. He currently serves as COFRA’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and previously led the Group Finance team, in addition to other finance and leadership positions at COFRA, Redevco, C&A and Rabobank.
He will succeed Martijn Brenninkmeijer who is stepping down as Chair of COFRA after twelve years of stewardship, initially as CEO from 2015 and then as Chair from 2018.
Martijn Brenninkmeijer, current Chair of the Board of COFRA Holding AG, commented: “It has been my honour to serve as Chair on behalf of the family owners and work with COFRA CEO Boudewijn Beerkens, our executives and our owner group to rejuvenate the strategic direction of COFRA. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the many outstanding professionals across our group, the foundations for future entrepreneurialism are now well in place.
Generational renewal, engaged ownership and investing with conviction have been fundamental to our family enterprise since the beginning. It is a source of pride, therefore, that I can now hand over to Florian.
Florian is an excellent choice to guide COFRA through its next chapter. I have the fullest confidence that under his leadership the group will continue to build enduring businesses that deliver superior returns while contributing positively to society and advancing the common good.''
John Singer, a member of the Governance and Nomination Committee of the COFRA Board and an Independent Non-Executive Director of COFRA Holding AG, commented: “On behalf of the COFRA Board I want to thank Martijn for his twelve years of leadership, initially as CEO and latterly as Chair. It is not by chance that his time has coincided with a sustained period of positive change and success for the Group. Built upon disciplined governance, a strong culture and a resilient balance sheet, COFRA is evolving into a mission-driven investment management group ready for the next generation.
The Board has the utmost confidence in Florian’s ability to guide COFRA and maintain the strong momentum we are seeing. He has a broad understanding of COFRA’s business portfolio, a strong track record in finance and transformation and a reputation for balanced judgement, collaboration and thoughtful leadership.”
Florian Brenninkmeyer, incoming Chair of COFRA Holding AG, said: “I would like to thank Martijn for his mentorship and his stewardship of our family business for many years. COFRA today is a home for thriving, mission-driven businesses and we are grateful.
I take on the role of Chair with a sense of responsibility to ensure that COFRA continues to evolve through directing our expertise, energy and capital into businesses and investments with the potential to create superior value and live up to our mission. Strong corporate governance is central to our 185-year-old family business and I am committed – just as Martijn was – to maintaining the highest standards in this area.”
Florian will step down as CFO of COFRA Holding AG as of 31 December 2026 to enable a smooth transition to his new role. His successor as CFO will be named in due course.
